Robert Johnson's somewhat archaic invocation of the title, "All My Love's In Vain" at each chorus was omitted by the Rolling Stones. I find it absolutely crucial to the song. And I learned it from Johnson's recording, after all, not theirs....
lyrics
Love In Vain (Robert Johnson)
I followed her to the station,
with her suitcase in my hand,
Well, I followed her to the station,
with her suitcase in my hand.
Well, it’s hard to tell, it’s hard to tell,
when all your love’s in vain,
All my love’s in vain.
When the train, it rolled into the station,
I looked her in the eye,
When that train rolled into the station,
I looked her in the eye.
Well, I was lonesome, I felt so lonesome;
I could not help but cry.
All my love’s in vain.
When the train, it left the station,
with two lights on behind,
Well, the train, it left the station,
with two lights on behind,
Well, the blue light was my blues,
and the red light was my mind.
All my love’s in vain.
Uumh, Willie Mae, Uumh, You know that’s her name, Uumh uumh,
Be my woman.
All my love’s in vain.
I followed her to the station, with her suitcase in my hand,
And I followed her to the station,
with her suitcase in my hand.
Well, it’s hard to tell, it’s hard to tell,
when all your love’s in vain,
All my love’s in vain.

Scott Ainslie: Gibson archtop and voice.
A long history with older black blues and gospel players in the mid-South marks Ainslie's work deeply. He transcribed all of
Robert Johnson's recorded songs for "Robert Johnson/At The Crossroads" (Hal Leonard, 1992) and has a teaching DVD on Johnson's music. A fine songwriter with a social conscience and a belief in the power of music to move and inspire, Ainslie's voice is a great force for good!...more
Cerebral palsy curbed his ability to play guitar the conventional way, so Nagoda learned double slide, this is his debut LP.
